Highest Self Salary Negotiations

A few weeks back I blogged about bringing your best self to any negotiation. I flip flopped between the words best and highest. There is a difference. Best meaning that which can be described in human terms, and highest meaning….that which passes all understanding.

Today, I’m pulling all the stops.  I’m letting go of all human limitations and letting the highest version of myself shine through this blog post. Can you feel it?

The point is, whenever you are in a position to negotiate salary, you have an opportunity to bring the highest version of you to the negotiation table. No agenda, no anger, no resentment even if you feel you are unfairly paid or experiencing bias in your workplace. Your highest self wants the best for everyone involved.

Walking into your boss’ office full of anger and resentment will result in disaster as Newton so beautifully describes in his Third Law of Motion:

Third law: When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to that of the first body.

And that just doesn’t sound pleasant nor is it highest self behavior.  Here are some traits of highest self salary negotiations:

1. The outcome is irrelevant to your success. The act of asking for more salary is a courageous one. It is enough. You set aside your ego, the human desire to ‘win’ at the expense of another person’s loss (potential employer or boss) and replace it with a peaceful warrior mindset.

“The journey is what brings us happiness not the destination.”

2. With dignity, grace and an inner knowing you step up to your boss and you put forth three compelling arguments for your raise. Or, if you are negotiating salary, three reasons why hiring you at that salary means success for that organization. You believe in your heart of hearts that this is the Truth.

3. You are absolutely humanly fearful when it comes to talking about salary and you embrace the energy. With a confidence that passes all understanding you turn your fear into excitement by paying attention to breath and speaking your Truth.

4. You are filled with a faith that, whatever the outcome of your salary negotiation, you are in the right and perfect place with the right and perfect people. Filled with faith you know there will be more opportunities to prove your value in the very near future.  This is the faith that passes all understanding.

Let your light shine! When you bring your highest self to the negotiation table, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Knowing the action is more important than the result and having the courage to stand up for what you want IS the win! The best part about bringing your highest self to any salary negotiation occurs when you walk away with dignity and grace knowing you said the exact right words at the exact right time to the exact right person.
